South Cariboo Meat Co-op

Intuitively, we all know that local food, produced by a farmer or rancher we know, caringly prepared by local folks, and lovingly shared with family and friends is good for us and for our community.

NEWS & UPDATES FROM OUR BLOG

"Know your farmer" is a mantra amongst a growing segment of food shoppers looking to serve their families healthy, nutritious and tasty meals. Who else can you really trust to provide your family with the best food?

Your support of local food producers is the best way to ensure a reliable source of good food for your family. It is also an excellent way to support our local economy and to ensure the ecologically sustainable utilization of our bountiful agricultural resources here in the South Cariboo.

The South Cariboo Meat Co-op is a recently-incorporated co-operative, established to serve local livestock producers and their customers throughout B.C. We are developing a new facility on Exeter McKinley Road in 100 Mile House to expand on the great, long-term service of Findlay Meats.

Cattle and cowboy at water holeOur Class A, provincially-licensed, red-meat abattoir will offer meats for sale anywhere and to anyone within British Columbia. Upon completion (January 1, 2011 target date), local livestock producers will be able to sell government-inspected beef, bison, goat, lamb, and pork to their existing and new customers.

The success of the South Cariboo Meat Co-op depends largely on the widespread support of both local ranchers and community members, recognizing the importance of local food production in our area. As a multi-stakeholder co-op offering membership to both livestock producers of every size and their existing or new customers for local meat, our Co-op is now actively recruiting members.

Membership in our Co-op is very affordable and offers you and your community numerous benefits.

Community’ members of the Co-op who already buy local meat will be able to sustain their existing relationship with area ranchers and purchase government-inspected meat products directly from them. Those of you looking to source safe and delicious local meat can join to ensure a reliable supply for your family. Beyond that, membership in our Co-op is a very attractive way to invest in your community.

Producer’ members of the Co-op will ensure the viability of a local abattoir designed to meet the needs of area ranchers and their customers. Every local rancher can fully appreciate the value of having a modern, efficient facility located conveniently right in 100 Mile House.

Specific details about membership in the South Cariboo Meat Co-op can be found on the attached Membership Application form.
